My current research project, supported by a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight Grant, is entitled “Art for War. Heritage Looting, Blood Antiquities, and the International Fight against Terrorism Financing.” The project examines the issue of illicit trade in antiquities and its connection to conflict and terrorism financing. The focus is on the Middle East as a “source region” of the artifacts, and on the efforts of Western “market countries” to fight this illicit trade through national initiatives and international cooperation.
